Final Cuts
October 6th, 2008 by puremetal33After another lackluster loss to San Jose in Salt Lake City last night, Kings made their final cuts today to reduce their roster size to 23.
From lakings.com:
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have announced the following player transactions:
Assigned to Manchester (AHL):
Alec Martinez - D
Teddy Purcell - RW
Jonathan Quick – G
Kevin Westgarth - RWReturned to Junior Team:
Thomas Hickey – D (WHL)Placed on Injured Reserve list:
Marc-Andre Cliche (shoulder)
Rich Clune (chest)
Most of these were pretty predictable given performance. No surprise that 2008 first round pick Drew Doughty has made the team, as have Oscar Moller and Wayne Simmonds, for the time being anyway.
It was kind of a foregone conclusion after giving up 4 goals on 24 shots in Phoenix on Saturday night that Jonathan Quick would be the odd man out. Last year’s late season sensation Erik Ersberg of Sweden will back up Jason LaBarbera in the Kings net.
Kings open the regular season Saturday night, October 11th in San Jose against the Sharks.
I’ll have a season preview of sorts, of the Pacific Division and Western Conference, later on in the week.
